When long ago comes back again
into the mind thought closed to then
the barriers that once were strong
simply crumble into mush.

And when mind unleashed goes walk-abouts
it touches on the love and joy
but always stops and ends each trip
with a familiar sadness.

That sadness stays to cloud the days
of settled calm, acceptance, peace,
and the mind must start to build again
new and better barriers.

And, yes, it toils each day and night
till finally it’s sealed up tight
and it breathes again the air of one
happy to be home again.

That build and break down nothing new
but it’s known that somewhere, sometime,
the barriers will not succumb
to those memories of long ago!

This speaks to me.

And, yes, it toils each day and night
till finally it’s sealed up tight
and it breathes again the air of one
happy to be home again.

The entire poem is haunting and beautiful to read.

Thank you for sharing.

Your poetry always hits a nerve.  I can so relate to every word.  I too am happy to be home again.  I'm convinced the grass is definitely not greener than my own backyard.  Love ya lady Sunday.

Thank you all so much.  I thought I was finished with my "stories" but life goes on - or is that backwards?  These blue pages are indeed a refuge and I'm grateful for that. It's nice to have some constancy in life no matter which way it decides to flow.

May you all be well and happy.

Hi Lori.  Thank you.  I guess the trouble with new perspectives is that in time they become old.

I think you just described my life! Beautiful write that leaves the perfect tinge of ache.

Thanks suthern.  It's a sad testimony to the human state that it should be descriptive of so many lives.

Yes, the past does haunt us doesn't it? You have such insight, Helen.

Hi Ida.  I guess memories are just the price we pay for living. Sometimes we can afford them and sometimes not.

Keep well.

walk-abouts reminded me of one of many fav movies, "Australia"

Lovely right my friend!!!

Memories can have a lingering sadness, that what we "see" is now outside our reach. We store away the moments we either prize or hate. There have been many times I wish I could go back in time to re-enjoy or change what once was, but we all learn to coexist with these memories. I hope this is on the same page of what you've written about.

Enjoyed.

Thank you, LeeJ.  My memory with regards to movies isn't great so I can't comment.  Perhaps I'm "deeper" than that - don't really know.

And, yes, Cerulean, we're on the same page.  Thank you.
