Ian Brady (Saddleworth Moors murders 1963-1965) died yesterday and has taken the secret of the grave of poor Keith Bennett to his own grave.
In memory of Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans

Moorland Grave

A ghostly mist, a moorland dawn
Too soon for sun to light the dale
And on the barbs where wool once torn
Could jackdaws silent tell a tale

The lonely heights where peat abounds
Secrets hidden in silent grave
No cross to mark, the dark surrounds
No calling card, a Jack or Knave

And surely as the sun will rise
Each shadow grows just reaching out
Each afternoon the curlew cries
Soon night will come there is no doubt

And dark descends to hush the land
And secret souls at stars will gaze
And moorland stone then turns to sand
And could my mind these thoughts erase.

Remarkably well-sculpted poetry Mr. Hughes, with a heartache that reaches out into what has now become, sadly...empty air.

Just out looking for the real me...

Shatteringly, devastatingly sad, but Keith Bennett's grave is not entirely unfound and unmarked - you have marked it in the ether of our memories via your beautiful memorial to him, Michael.  Thank you on behalf of Keith Bennett and the others and their families.

It's good to bring the subject of Keith up again. You wrote a powerful poem.
