the blank page
not unlike a deserted road
the page
is there for you to spin your magic
write your poem
for a better tomorrow
the road
likewise it is there for you to run
hanging thumb in the wind
hoping for good luck, knowing you won't find it
you spend time writing on the page
even as you are putting
miles behind you and good old town USA
breathing agreeable air
that comes from each mile of freedom
you put behind you and
home sweet (not)home
the tumultuous weather conditions
a distant remembrance of home
a hollowing inside your chest
cause you to think
once again
of home . . . a place of small town secrets . . .
a place to run screaming from
and write words on napkins
while you're slurping your coffee
a long, long way from good old town USA

Yes Mr. Bolton...and the many, many pages we fill along our sometimes 'wayward' way on the hardened road toward home.

I really like this. It has the scent of things that go way back in our time.

Pass the Glade if you're going to do that here...

Yes PU, it does have a bit of nostalgia interlaced within the stanza. Thank you for rescuing me, it is very much appreciated.

You're more than welcome Sir!

You always reply to everyone Mr Bolton. Many need to relearn this quality. You're a fine example of what a member should be, and you always have been.

I confess the mean streets, the hard knocks, and everything in between look good on ya JP, and make for some great poetry.

Ah, thanks Blues. They might look good on me now, but thank goodness those days are over.

Just a guess here, but I'm going to go out on a limb a say you have been the you that you are today (writer and poet) longer than you were the you of the mean streets. The hard times might have given you an edge, but it isn't who you are now. ~L

Love your catchy title Jerry ~ But more than that I like the sentiments within. One think is certain...If we stay running, the page never stays blank   Thank you for sharing ~ Alana
