Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Mizz Kitty,
golden sphinx
poised across my lap.
You purr upon your world
more than contented.
The sheen of
your just brushed
honey colored coat,
matches the shine
in your half-closed
gold-green eyes.
You look as if remembering
the strokes of the brush
at the base of your tail,
making it stick straight up
and curl down like a hook.
Or perhaps you were recalling
brush bristles scratching the inside
of your itching ears.
You twisting your head upside down
trying to get the brush deeper.
Then there were those long strokes,
up your back against the grain.
You arching your back legs
and bowing your head.
Or still yet, the special attention given
to that place around your neck
where your collar lays.
You may lay here contented now
my golden sphinx,
but mere minutes ago
you were dancing.
You leaped into my lap
with claws extended
and began to knead my leg.
Too excited for two feet to contain,
your back legs join in the jig
and I become a pincushion.
“Pet me now!” and “Scratch my ears!”
I can almost hear you say.
Your toe nails have trained me well
and I grab the brush with haste.
Only the brush will do to touch you
this shedding time of year.
Your creamy undercoat is on the fly
and only a brush can contain it.
So here we sit,
the Sphinx and I contented.
We’ll doze awhile
then something will disturb us.
But later that day I’ll be back
and Mizz Kitty will come and dance.

That part about when she gets so excited when you are brushing near her tail reminds me of Zoe. When I get to brushing down there with the brush she lifts her head skyward and lets out with a mournful, but happy wail.

For much of your fine poetry Lori Rhoden, there were visions of other experiences known to some in 'cat houses'. But since "Mizz Kitty", the "golden sphinx"  is in your house, it seems clear to me that you are each others pet...and well cared for at that.

Pass the Glade if you're going to do that here...

Yes we are, PU.  Mizz Kitty sends her regards, a snooze in the dog's bed. ~L
