          Spring Evening

Just beyond a flaming sunset
in the soft-velvet twilight
   afterglow,
as the harsh world of men
   grows dim,
stars bloom in the cosmic
desert’s grand immensity.
A crescent moon hangs the
far eastern sky horizon and
moonlight slips across this
grey river silvering all
but the heaviest shadows.
The night breezes tickles
reeds along the shore
to quietly rippling laughter.
All of life settles in on
such a gentle Spring night
in pause from Nature’s
  random busywork,
as it has for three hundred
   million years.
Who are we to disturb
   the universe?

"as the harsh world of men
   grows dim"

Yes, my friend, from that harshness to the velvet and mystical world of such splendor mankind can only stand and gawk. Our eyes fills our hearts on such an event you have given us.

thanks, JP !

even a fine snowfall seems to soften (blunt) hard-edged (human-built) "reality!"

A pearl of wisdom in "the harsh world of men."

... but, who (in America in particular) "listens" to 'ol environmental poet-geologists.
We're way down the queue (of who folks might 'pay attention to') behind professional
turnip jugglers, etc.!
