Summers of Fun and Sun

You know what was fun;
riding up and down the California coast
with my friend Al Zerman
when we were young and dumb,
seems like there's nothing as carefree
as a summer of fun and sun on a motorcycle;
rubber to the road, sounds and power of the motor,
the feelings of freedom and adventure,
keeping plenty of gas in the tank,
and the joy of stopping at Perry's Smorgasbord
once a day to fill up the belly
with something more than peanut butter and jelly.

When you are young it seems like you live
on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,
doesn't count the time we stopped at a
small goat farm in the hills around Santa
Barbara and spent the night and in the morning
they served us goat milk with brewers yeast
for breakfast, something I didn't care for
but my friend Al loved it, things were going
well until he told the lady of the house I played
piano and she ask for a performance, the only
piano I played was piano music on records, I
remember one I used to like, it was called
"That's My Song" by Ian Witcomb...

It's a nostalgic moon over the waters from the top looking down off Moss Street in Laguna.

It's what mirrors are for. Good work James.

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.

oh to be young and carefree
never mind what's around the bend
today, it's our world.

Nice, James...those were the days
