A Bridge Over A Pond

In a birthday card I sent
to my oldest son
I shared a story
of when he was a child;
when I would take him and his brothers
to a Long Beach nature hike,
and near the beginning of that hike
there is a bridge over a pond,
and I told my son that I remembered
that as we crossed that wooden bridge
my sons would get excited and vocal
when they saw turtles swimming in the water;
fast forward to today,
and my sons are all adults;
in a recent phone conversation
my now grown son told me he and his girlfriend
have been on that same nature hike
he took as a child with me and his brothers,
and they have watched the turtles swimming
on that same bridge over the pond.

History really does repeat itself, and in this case in a very personal way.

In a world that changes so rapidly, it's great to hear a story about a place that has remained the same. I get out to the coasts from time to time and the only thing I find to be the same is that the oceans are still wet.

I once worked on Long Beach Blvd, not far from where the Queen was resting in the early 70's. It hadn't been there very long.

...just bein' Bluesy

Goes to show we never really know how big of an impression we make on our kids. I'm so happy this has come full circle for you. ~L
