sitting on the porch
smelling the flowers growing nearby
I'm with Zoe
and a glass of cheap California burgundy
moon beaming down at me
I raise my glass and toast the moon
Zoe growls, ears alert
moon's reflection
bounces off the wine glass
bright moon
casting my shadow its light
its glass raised as if toasting me back
cheers old shadow, I say
the moon, my shadow and Zoe
and myself
with three for company
I'm doing alright
good company too, if I dance
my shadow follows my lead
sometimes I sing
old songs
and the moon accompanies me
I like my company
but if I happen to drink too much
we all part ways
except for Zoe
she never leaves my side
someday it is my wish
that all four of us will meet for a reunion
up there deep, deep
in the Milky Way’s expanse

Nothing sticks with you through thick and thin better than a good dog and your shadow.

Good reading JerryPat.

ah, burgundy musings. The love of a good dog will make any moon shine brighter and your wine that much sweeter. Counting your blessings will always make you feel richer. ~L

I love this Jerry (huggles and cuddles and kissles to precious little Zoe).  I too love my own company along with that of my 5 furbabies and the moon.
