The goose stood wondering
Snow falling on her down
Blue eyes fixed upon the door
The barn warm with straw to lie
She hears the sound of steel
Grinding on the millstone wheel
So plump she is from winter feed
Each crystal flake her eyes do see
A festive time for all it's said
Feasting till their waistlines burst
As carol singers spread the word
Of joy to all the world
The goose she turns to walk away
And shivers to the light of day

Not a good time to be a goose. Forgive the reference of another Michael, but the last line in JerryPat2's poem "Are You Listening" (which I just read) is, "can you hear"!

Splendid tale of a Christmas Goose developing an anxiety complex.

Hah! Poor old turkey made it through Thanksgiving without having her neck chopped off. But now it is the biggest holiday of all to try and skim by to live another day. Will she make it?

I used to read "Mrs. Goose" stories to my big girls when they were little ones. It was tough enough to wean them off of "Tooth Fairies, Easter Bunnies and Santa Claus", but slaughter a goose? I'd have no angle for that! It was all I could do to skip any questions about Thanksgiving turkeys!

Now it's their turn. Oh, the lies and deception we teach our children...simply 'shocking'!

Certainly enjoyed reading your poem Michael!
