We are deep into the Silly Season
when caves of dream merchants once again
are almost spinning in a whirl,
all awash in pricey glitter
naught but empty fluff in sight,
like Congress packing promises for home;
so it's coming on Christmas
or so Joni used to sing at night
way back when
she was just a bright eyed slip of girl
Tin Angel waitress full of her own empty promise
of delight.
Can we still say that?
Or is this another thing banned
beyond meaning,
thought crime that needs cleaning,
a gender diminutive
and two "C" words
that could bring potential images of infamy,
maybe light a neural synapse
maybe even two.
Wipe out all errant thought !
Like children we have trashed the board
to restart old familiar games,
We've learned new names
and hope a shining hero tames
our enemies making good on all his claims.
We ought to have grown up more than this by now,
don't you think?
We should not shrink from acting as adults
in meeting our responsibilities.
Sorry,
forgot we're not supposed to think
for ourselves;
I better watch the lamestream News
as they feed me polling tested clues
so I'll know what I should choose
to hold the views I should hold,
accepted,
comfortably dissected
already pre-digested snooze,
‘cause gods forbid
I might come upon an idea on my own,
based only upon honest information.
Oh no, there's one of those words again
when will these traps of treachery end?
Perhaps oh lord, perhaps
after I am glutted by the Hollow Days.

Christmas . . . Bah humbug! It has been out of control for many, many years.

Missing so many of my fine poet friends. Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season. M

You wake up Christmas morning to that silence that hangs in the air after the bombing stops, open a few gifts, then drive for miles to pick up some already dead batteries to fit the toys you received.

Likewise... After an election, you drive in circles only to find, they no longer make the type of batteries that fit the toys you were promised.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts!

Bing's White Christmas was never the same after the Saigon days.  Now I am told it is racist!?

Sad what is sacrificed on the altar of politics.

I guess we all need to create meaning when our lives do no merit it.
