'The Last Time I Cried'

I still remember the day like no time has passed,
And yet the wounds that cut me deep,
Are now a mass of hidden scars,
For the girl I used to be,
The one you brought down to her knees,
Exists where no one ever looks,
As her body slowly bleeds.

And the smile I always wore,
That used to fill my life with hope,
Is but a noose around my neck,
Whilst I dangle from the rope,
And though I tried to Carry on and accept the life I found,
The rope grows shorter every day,
Gaining distance from the ground.

And with every painful breath,
Oh how I kick and grab the air,
Having to fight life on my own,
When there’s no one else who cares.
Forced to give into my fate with a motionless retreat,
The taste of poison on my lips,
The darkness clawing at my feet.
And all the angels up above,
In their glorious domain,
May they close their eyes in sorrow,
As they hang their heads in shame.

Why didn’t you listen to the words I screamed?
As they poured out of my mouth,
Or see the tears stream down my face,
In a silent plea for help,
All of the times I begged and begged,
And yet you didn’t even hear,
Pinning my arms down by my sides,
Whilst you punished me with fear.
Why couldn’t you stop for just a second?
And see the mess you made,
I never believed in faith or religion,
But every night I prayed and prayed.

“Oh God please make it stop!....”

And I’m reminded of the pain even to this very day,
For the girl I used to be,
Got left behind and lost her way,
And though I often call her name,
Just to check if she’s ok,
She only responds to me with silence,
Like there’s nothing left to say.

And the tears you made her cry,
The day her whole world slowly died,
I still wear them to remind me,
Of the last time that I cried.

Anyone who can describe their pain so vividly as the 'character' in your poetry James, must also know the vibrant intensity of true love.

Excellent.

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.
