like putty in your hands
life begins
the words come
each precise and definite
complimenting the whole
or shock value to be mischievous
such is the talent
of the bard
such is the world of words
even made-up ones
are allowed
as you are building
couplets from the heart
much leeway is to be had
constructing word jazz
the words are your stage
make 'em sing
in free verse
whatever your style
you are its master
not the other way
build the words
make yourself heard
pray for 'em
sweat 'em out
shock 'em
til they blush cherry red
treat 'em with kindness
shove a tongue down their throat
give 'em what they like
ride 'em hard
just take charge
to write a poem
makes not a poet real
my claim to fame
I am not poet
I just write poems
a poet laureate I'll never be
air too rarefied up there for moi
wish I could glide the word though
like some that I know
glad I don't
pen poems like some famous one I've read
when it's all said and done
it is you
your words
and what's inside

"when it's all said and done it is you your words and what's inside".

What you have said in your poem speaks out loud for so many. I salute you!

One ladle serves the soup that feeds the mouths of the many.

I respect your humility on one hand Jerry and on the other say that you are, in my opinion, absolutely right. Few poets say that is what they are, as if it were a title. I consider it to be more as a term of recognition. I call you a 'poet' because indeed, you are skilled at "building words" and using them to relate. You are a poet. This I bestow upon you because I can, not because I'm a poet...I'm not. I'm a reader and I know a 'poet' when I read one.

Besides, it's better than being a lot of other things, isn't it?

A very good read Jerry. If you were the only poet here, it would be worth the trip.

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.

Awww, man, thank you so much . . . In reality if a person writes poetry, he/she is a poet.

Poet Jerry, A Poets Poem for sure, and a no nonsense way to tell it. Just love that "word jazz" line.

Enjoyed..
