           Always

‘Endless’ hills and forests
stretch to a long-shadow
   sunset,
as a soft amethyst-twilight
settles on these deep
woodland paths to
    nowhere.
A gentle Autumn evening
breeze tickles the last
leaves of the day to dance
their intricate falling
   arabesques
as if to some ancient
Celtic tune, measured
and far away, across
the boundless ocean
   of Deepest Time.
Above this lake of dreams,
a loon calls his last farewell
to that setting sun and a
greeting to the rising moon.
Though the moments of this
brief, beautiful life slip beyond
our grasp forever, if spirit and
consciousness persist, know
that I shall care for you always.
