Kenny Brown was never my mate,
but we played darts
the Sunday before he left.
I remember his jokes;
he was two years older than me.
Double top! He won a pint.

His mother was always immaculate;
high heels and perfect stockings.
The lorry killed her
just as it killed Kenny.

After Rowstock Corner
she never shed her dressing gown.
His stepfather said:
'I'll never get her back from this,'
and he was right.

Twenty one years of age?
His mother never came back.

Sad, sad almost to the breaking point . . . Just like his mother . . .
