Barn Dance
By: Nadia Lockheart
8/1/16
.
.
Sole long,
see you leather,
gonna raise the barn tonight...

...who wants to strip the willow,
speed the plow,
blare the lamplighter's hornpipe?

...we'll have a hayride hoedown,
light this vaulted ceiling,
like the summer sky...

...time to kick up some dust,
shake a little rust,
at the barn dance tonight...
.
.
In my cowgirl boots,
blue jeans,
and a calico camisole...

...I tie my hair,
in a wispy braid,
and I'm rarin' to go...

...my girls are sagebrush swishing,
in rustic tones of
blush, beige and gold...

...gonna shake,
this cottonwood forest,
on this gentle knoll...
.
.
Sole long,
see you leather,
gonna raise the barn tonight...

...who wants to strip the willow,
speed the plow,
blare the lamplighter's hornpipe?

...we'll have a hayride hoedown,
light this vaulted ceiling,
like the summer sky...

...time to kick up some dust,
shake a little rust,
at the barn dance tonight...
.
.
They've got chandeliers,
crafted out,
of hula hoops...

...and sunflower bouquets,
in tin buckets,
lining the feed room...

...and the bunting's,
made of mason jars,
jangling post to beam...

...and all you need's a haybale,
draped in burlap,
to make a damn good seat...
.
.
Come just as you are...
...stay as long as you can...
...we're all family here...
...ain't no seating plan...
.
.
.
.
Treat your caller,
as your friend...

...laugh off each mistake,
and loose end...

...cajole your shy friends,
to join in...

...have a sip,
of rhubarb wine...

and do the Ruby Revelry...
.
.
.
Strike up the band,
you know we're all,
gonna raise the barn tonight...

...beside the cherry orchard,
having ourselves,
a threshing good time...

...let's flock the dance floor,
like a skein of geese,
in a summer sky...

...time to kick up some dust,
shake a little rust,
at the barn dance tonight...

...shake that silk and thistle,
grain and gristle,
at the barn dance tonight...
.
.

Put up a little rhubarb wine myself old friend. Say, you've got yourself a barn dance that everyone would enjoy. Great writing as always, and I'm happy you're happy with all the changes.

Stay well and happy Nadia.

sounds like a wonderful celebration and a picturesque imagery to match!
