Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Silly brain of mine
has a way of
what if-ing
too much of the time.
It gets on a roll
then anxiety
gets out of control.
I get panicky
and can’t make it quit.
So here I sit.
It just kills me
the way it fills me.
Like an earthquake
in my skin,
it’s more than I can take
I want to give in
and crawl in a hole deep
and just sleep
until it it’s done and gone.
Sometimes a pill
can help me chill,
if I catch it early
before it’s gone on too long.
But more often than not
I’m stuck in this shaky spot.
Timid as a mouse,
I don’t want to leave the house,
or even my favorite chair.
I have to be strong,
like taking a dare,
to act like nothing is wrong.
I really hate it
it is so hard to abate it.
I feel foolish
with emotions so unrulish.
Knowing full well
that this self-inflicted hell
is all in my head.
There is nothing real to dread.

I absolutely understand exactly where you are coming from. In other words, I relate big time. PANIC! Word for today . . .

It has become a full blown monster since having to go around and promote my book. ARGGGGHHHH! It is crazy! I don't have a problem with reading my poems to a room full of people but ask me to go somewhere and see if they want to sell my book and I'm a mess. And it is not like I have had a negative experience in this endeavor. I am such a pain in my ass. ~L

I never liked book signings and trying to promote my books to perfect strangers. I understand where you are coming from. I'll be getting the book, but it will have to wait until next month now. I had to shell out $453.22 for a new starter yesterday. Gonna be a l-o-n-g month

James,
finding out that prayer is more help than I realized it could be. ~L
