being alone has it finer points
nobody telling you want to do
take out the garbage if you want to
or let it wait
go a week and not shave
wear the same clothes for days
buy what you want at the store
devour ice cream by the half gallon
these and many more
pluses' are the rewards of living alone

oh . . .

did I mention
leaving the toilet seat up
without sarcastic remarks
uh huh
that too
ogling the pretty ladies
without comments from the peanut gallery
yes indeed
I have got it made
living life without
fussing, cussing and walking on egg shells
certain times of the month
its great I'm here to say

still . . .

there are times when
the soft humming of an off-key tune
would be pleasant to the ears
I'll admit
the presence of healthy
pretty flowers would not be so bad
never mind a home-cooked meal

sigh . . .

even paradise has its drawbacks
that garden
you know
the one in Eden
it had drawback too
slimy snake and a poisoned damn apple

so . . .

paradise maybe ain't all its cracked up to be
you know
when you get right down to it
I ache
for soft fingers scratching my back
a sudden smile
follow by I love you
makes a guy feel special

ah . . .

maybe perchance that's it then
maybe that is what I miss
here in paradise
the feeling I used to get
when she said those words
and made me feel so damn special

Aw JP this makes me a little sad, but I also get the feeling you enjoy your own company, and that is so very important. Like your previous poem, finding that balance is key.

Happy 4th.

Oh,  Blue, my life has been so very crazy and wild it is beyond belief, even to me at times. So, at this stage in my life I am completely happy to live alone. I have had my share of the "other" side of life, and these days I relish my being alone. Thank you so much for being her . . .

Good progression here Jerry. I like where you started and I sure liked where and how you ended. Soft fingers. Yeah, that's nice, real nice. You're in touch more than most.

More feelings and fewer words please

Jerry, instinctively we are all herd creatures. Isolation is bad for us and enforced complete isolation, if carried to extremes, will affect our mentality to breaking point.
Sure, most of us enjoy time to ourselves but with the choice to share time with others when we need to.

Home life for me is a feminine world, a wife and four daughters, which I wouldn’t change but there are times when I hunger to spend a little time in the bathroom without the constant knocking on the door.

Yann, you touched upon life personified with your comment, and I appreciate it.

I know you are right Cari. What you have is something I threw away. I still have nightmares about it. Thank you for your thoughts I know you are right, . What you have is something I threw away. wonderful write...I to live a life alone, and love it....a very dear friend once told me, "the longer your alone, the more you enjoy it".  Herd animals or not...can't be in any herd, and I have a nice network of friends, relatives, however, must also keep them at bay.  Perhaps when I retire, I'll feel differently, but I love the aloneness, I'm not really lonely....it is something very very spiritual.

I understand exactly what you mean, Lee. I'm very happy being along. I'm on the Internet and have friends I chat with. Get my news. I'm happy.
