You think you know the worth of life;
Is that with or without a wife?
Or does true worth to do with cash,
That you have so carefully stashed?

Does the worth of one fall too short,
Is it judged by a snooty court?
Is the worth we process to seek,
Really that special and unique?

Is freedom the key to it all,
Or your name on a bathroom wall?
Are you free to pursue your dream,
Seeking your own crème de la crème?

Do you judge your peers of their worth,
Are they worth more because of birth?
Duty and work, do they mean less,
Than a rebel whose life's a mess?

The pious walks a narrow road,
He lives by his own set of codes.
Does his morals give him the right,
Look down his nose from Rapture's height?

Just as most humans never reach past the limitations imposed upon them by their upbringing, (we all only know what we know), so much I want to say one person could never truly gauge the worth of another individual.  It's when the "opinion" of self...a.k.a. self worth comes into question, that one really might want to pay attention.  Inspiring piece...makes one think.

I think a standard needs to be in place when considering "worth" Jerry, and their needs to be a standard for everything considered. This offends some people who for example, think that the only way to get along with a particular person, is to 'live up' to that person's 'standard'. Then there's the job, the boss, the wife, the husband, the this, the that, you know the routine. Did I lose track here somewhere Jerry or is this along the lines of your thinking.

More feelings and fewer words please

Thank you Ari for chiming in on my poem. Actually, I had in mind what the individual honestly knows himself. If you you are a person who thinks of himself as honest and able to feel toward others with unbiased thoughts (unless that person shows him reason that he cannot). Being true (really true) to yourself is another way of putting it, Ari.

Phew! A very complex poem to comment on in a few lines.
I don’t think you can be the judge of your own worth, that’s for others to say.
I suppose we are mixture of the good and the not so good.
I think events and the passing years change us, I’m speaking mentally not physically.
In my youth I was aggressive and took decisions by impulse and so made some very bad ones.

Now I have a good marriage, four daughters and live in a beautiful part of the world and don’t spend my time pursuing the chase for a larger pay cheque. That will do for me.

Cari.

Thank you Cari, I thought your comments were very good and said a lot. I realize we maybe should not judge our own worth, but who know better than we if we lie, cheat and other things we hide from others. Appreciate your comments.

Good one Jerry. I was thinking of this all week as I watched  and listened to the younger members in my family. So many different personalities. A few know the way they want to go, the others try to please. I never wanted my children to please me. But to themselves be true. And to others be kind.
All I ever asked. If they went to college but it turned they wanted to drive a truck or any other job so be it. As long as they were happy and honest. In a family of six children and mom and dad there  was always thirty personalities to dance around. I just know I did my best to encourage each one. jo jo  hope

Ah, Jo, from the pen of a silver citizen you speak from what you have learned, what you have tried to do, and your comments are greatly valued. Greatly! Thank you . . .
