Sherry and Sweet Mary

When I first met sweet Mary
she was with her friend Sherry,
sitting in Sherry's '57 Chevy
at the A & W Root Beer
out toward the levy;
"Want to share my fries?",
I ask Sherry with big eyes,
hers not mine,
she told me she had a jealous boyfriend,
then told me to go to the passenger side
and talk to her friend,
so that's how I met sweet Mary;
Mary said to me, "Like a bird she was free.",
and she seemed to be interested enough in me;
she said, "get in here with me so we can talk",
and as she talked she checked me out with her eyes
and helped me finish off those big juicy fries,
meanwhile Sherry made that Chevy come alive
and we proceeded to take a drive,
we were all having fun cruisin' the neighborhood,
me and Sherry and Mary got along good,
an hour later back to A & W
so I could pick-up my old pick-up truck,
sweet Mary said, "Let me roll with you hon.",
that summer we had fun, fun, fun.

I recall times like that, as many who reply to you here James have also. I was never the jealous type myself...really. If I couldn't keep a girl (later, a woman)interested, then I would simply let them fly away. But I managed to hang on to them because I could talk to them like you, and at that time girls liked guys who knew what to say and how to say it. I was protective, which is what we needed to do in the city. If you were 'respected', everything was always cool. The "A & W is most related to, and a privately owned drive-in called "Skip's Fiesta".

Thanks for the memories James, but you really sent me back aways into '57 heaven'.

Great work.

More feelings and fewer words please

James - Ahh! This resurrects a lovely memory. It wasn't french fries for me. It was a chocolate milk shake that sparked and still sparks a half century of connubial bliss. Thanks for sharing this James. You did real good. Namyh
P.S. - You know! I want a milk shake....with fries!....right now!
