He is gone today
off to do this and that
away into the cars and roads
and buildings nudging
and the scents and sounds of people

There is only blue sky here
the way it is after a heavy rain
where the gutters remain full
of what the wind does
to the last leaves of winter

Up the hill of this new place
called home I am filled with wonder
like the child in me in awe of the night sky
for there are tiny flowers emerging
next to the gofers cleanly dirt pile
as the silk bark of the manzanita
reaches out and asks to be touched

I walk up hill
my walking stick saving me
my breath seeking deeply something in the air
that whisks in and out of bird's song
in this almost spring of
waiting for him to come home

Martie, I've always loved the economy of words that you use to make such vivid images.
In the present you are still enthralled with the beauty of nature surrounding you.

Very very nice writing.

OMG- I just answered your reply-and in that reply was a request for a poem..

My wish came true, and I thank you for it... :-)

"There is only blue sky here

of what the wind does
to the last leaves of winter"

Frost, in free verse form, that's what it is...gentle, and real...the poem is a joy to read..

Thank you for it, Friend Martie

I surely relate to these lines, Martie. So good to see you back, seems as though it has been a good while.

What a warm and gentle read...the kind that make you take a deep breath you hadn't realized you needed. Enjoyed very much! ~L
