Destroying Relationships

"Our life is what our thoughts make it"...
Marcus Aurelius

Is there anyone
within the sound of my voice
that can say they have had
a sad life or a bad life,
that seemed to contain way
too much hurt and struggles;
perhaps there is a common thread,
a connection to be made,
a way to explain
a reason for the pain,
and it can be found in this simple word...
Choices...you see friends
there is power in choices;
many have gained the understanding
and they know the value of making good choices
verses the sadness that will become
a part of your life
as you stack bad choice upon bad choice,
and as these begin to accumulate
they can destroy relationships
and shatter dreams.

"It all starts in the realm of the mind, with an
ability to think and choose-the most powerful
thing in the universe after God, and indeed,
fashioned after God."..."Switch on Your Brain",
by Dr. Caroline Leaf, page 20.

I can relate to this poem.
My son is a stoic admirer of Marcus Aurelius.

A philosopy major in college, who now mentors troubled children, and teens in a private school.

Im going to send him this poem, with your permission, of course.

Yeah, you're right, Bruce, it is the choices we make which define us. Then again, sometimes it is the choices made "for" us which in turn give us no alternative but to follow the path they opened up for us. Yes, there are no absolutes
