Impasse

Sometimes . . .
sitting in front of the computer,
like this,
listening to music play,
fingers on the home-row
waiting
for the letters and the words
to take shape,

I sink deep into reverie -
even deeper -
into the bottom of my soul
of years and years ago,

and I find my eyes
looking at nothing,
my breath, shallow,
heart, slowing
in the yearnings of the years,
of the past -
of the could have beens
wish-have beens,
realities
that were, and were not.

And I hurt in ways,
so subtle,
there's really no pain,
an ache, so dull,
it's more a sigh
of not being able
to breathe,

of birth waiting to happen
because . . .

because I couldn't have come
so far
in such a short
while.

Impasse.
No keys being struck,
No words being created.

Just memories
eating me
from the inside . . .

Oh, my,

what have I done,
with my life.

Damn, Jimmy you too? So many poems I could have written but for the scenario you have just painted with your words. All I can say to this gem of a write . . . I relate big time!

Hey JW I think we all sink into that depth of reflective pondering......Seems to be at that very moment we forget many of the good things we do and have done.

Good writing!

Wow JW, this is just how it is with us "oldies".  You described it beautifully.  Well done!

Jimmy,
What a comfort to hear those words come from people you look up to! Nice to know we are at lest in the same boat. However I often feel as if I'm being towed along in the dingy, I'm still in on the grand adventure.
Keep in mind when thinking about how you could have taken a different path....on that different path you could have gotten hit by a bus. ~L

Oh my, Jimmy.  It's have if you have lifted a mirror to show how I write at the computer.  The feelings that I tap into, the sense of relaxation, ... you wrote this well, my friend.  Love your poetry.
