Portrait of hope His hand wavered then slowly felt the golden watch chain Each link a rosary of love in touch with passing time Minutes passing, fast or slow, glancing at the face once more Perpetual movement of the hands each second of despair Pristine cuffs contrasting with the ebony of his cane Embellished silver a hallmark of his undying love Within the golden hunter, fine portrait her subtle smile But would she come this day as promised neath the willow bare And still the seconds ticked marking time with his blazing heart Fine crinoline and parasols like scenes from Renoir’s mind Boating party on the lake, umbrellas blue, but no rain He checked once more and then wound the watch hoping time had stopped A breeze that chills and whispers truths he knows so very well Eternal hope, within each link, that she would come someday. |

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Portrait of hope." The links helping hid imagination that she would surely come . . . Excellent! ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

A breeze that chills and whispers truths he knows so very well Eternal hope, within each link, that she would come someday. Beautifully, intensely melancholic, but the hope is still there. Wonderfully written. Margherita "Forget every touch or sound that did not teach you how to dance." |

Very nice indeed! Your creation of word pictures to set the scene is excellent. Very enjoyable read. Love some of the ambiguity. Eric true love never looks after it's own interests |
