A Rose For My Valentine

When the first rose bloomed
it was large, viable,
a thing to behold -
and yet,
I was saddened
because the days
were counting down
and this first rose of spring
in my garden

was yellow.

The next day
a bud,
almost ready to open
showed signs of pink
tracing the forest green
of it's sepals
as they began
to spread -

Ah, a splendid pink,
for sure,
maybe more,
but as yet,
still a mystery . . .

and the days are counting
down.

Today I arose,
inhaled deeply
of the coffee odor
in the air,
traced it from my bedroom,
down the hall,
around the corner
into the living room
where it rose from a cup
in the hand of my wife,
standing at the kitchen door,
her smile enhancing door
it's draw.

I stepped across the room,
reached for it . . .
Stopped!

Something had caught my eye.
Something red -
red as the color
of my heart.

I turned, and there,
in all its glory,
just outside the living room window,
a rose as large as my hand,
redder than red,
deeper in hue
than any color I've seen.

A Rose,
a beautiful,
Red Rose,
and a sign
hanging from the window pane,
just above the image
that had caught my eye . . .

Happy Valentines,
my wonderful Husband,
I grew this - just for you!

Ahhh . . . Such beautiful sentiments is within
this splendid poem which came from your heart
and your emotion is apparent throughout the
verses . . . I liked it very much, Jimmy . . .

Me too! Such a very sweet sign to find in your window and a very lovely poem! We don't have any roses but there is an old row of peonies along our front walk that are full of color when they bloom. The ants seem to help with that and they're very interesting to watch!

If I were more than I am, I'd see things differently instead of the same all the time.

Jimmy,
One could reasonably argue which is sweeter; sugar, honey or one of your Valentine's Day poems! ~L
