Longing for the summer Hols
When time walked on leaden feet
When an hour took a day to pass
And a day to last a week

Freedom came on Friday
With the ring of the home time bell
Me and Mitch were on the loose
Intent on raising hell

Bespectacled swots are pushed aside
Girls scream and run for cover
“You just wait” squeals cross eyed Kate
“I’m going to tell me mother”

So its fare thee well to the Borough Market
To the Hustlers and the Fly Boys cries
I’m bound for green fields and wandering rivers
Far from Bert’s fish shop and his greasy fries

I wonder if Julie remembers the hay loft
Liquorice kisses under an August moon
I wonder if Holly will play his squeeze box
As we call for another tune

Gathering up my yesterdays
My god they still look new
The train stands ready waiting
And there’s always room for you.

Delightful, Cari! I enjoyed every word and also the title!

We change, our lives change, but there is still room for new emotions, without forgetting the old ones.

Very nice poem!
