Midnight...

Once the bewitching hour
in times now viewed in scrapbooks
and photo albums. A few stored by
'digital means', which I never
fully embraced.

Glad I never had to.

Computers are great though and my
'embracing' of them borders on some
strange form of intercourse that has
lasted for nigh on 35 years now.

The initial attraction was physical.

I was a young thirty something and she was 4k, single, with just one 'floppy' that actually 'flopped'.

With a 'bit' more experience I split from my
4k and moved up to a 32k with two fully developed
'floppys'.

Oh, then I went whole hog with a dot matrix printer.
Loved that printer and I can still hear the staccato of that baby just like an old mechanical Remington Rand!

I wish I would have recorded the sound of that old dot matrix though. Left in the hands of one of my previous entanglements, there's no telling what it's fate was.

I managed to keep the scrapbooks alright and I lived to write a little something about it too.

It's not a great story, but I just thought I'd mention it all because it just happened to come to me as I was flipping through one of those scrapbooks.

You know how that can be, don't you?

She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast".

Yes I know how that can be, Danny!

You brought smiles with your very captivating pondering here. I too have lived through these technical evolutions and you reminded me of the noise (or was it music?!) of the first accounting machine, a Borroughs, I had to use, which initially terrified me! But then I highly appreciated it, as soon as I was familiar with it.

I really enjoyed reading you and remembering ...

Tickle'

I like this,  and the bit of naughty in its content..

Or am I showing the dirty old man complex, that my wife says I have?

Reminds me a little of ee cummings, in "She being brand new"

enjoyed the poem...:-)

I have coined a new phrase for what I am when it comes to computer things. I'm a techno-tard. I did not keep up and fell behind in a red hot hurry. Heck, I can't handle 3/4ths of the buttons on my TV remote.

You reminded me of a poem I wrote called Previous Entanglement, I think I'll post it.

I always said I would never buy a computer. Eh, something dastardly happened to me one dark and gray day, and I did the impossible. Bought one. I drove everybody I knew insane trying to get things straight between me and this damn computer. Reboot it? How the hell do I reboot a computer, man? Come on! After many tries and even more errors I finally spent one whole day without calling up my friends for help. Some of them left town in disgust. I still barely know enough to get by, but . . .

Well you may have 'coined it' for yourself Miss Lori, but the world just couldn't wait.
