Mahler
Adagio

Symphony of sadness
Despair flounders
In a well of sorrow
~
Sobbing strings cry
Stitching the fabric of pain
To weave a shroud of anguish
~
Wandering counterpoint
A lost child searching
Through veils of sound
~
Threads of tears
Fall to find
The pools of pity

Just listened to Mahler- Symphony No 10 Adagio (Bernsteine)

For a half hour on youtube..

This music is depicted in your poem very well.

I see that their are other versions of the symhony adigio, I believe this is the one you had in mind?

Enjoyed the music, and your poem.

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."

Ice,
Ah so good to have found someone who enjoys classical music. I once tried to elevate the conversation to a higher level with my drinking mates down at the White Heart. They looked at me as if I had grown three heads and were unsure which one to address.

To answer you’re question, its loosely based on Mahler’s 10th.. He had a habit of naming his symphonies and the 10th I believe was concerned with death. But another reason for the sadness in his work was discovering that his wife, a renowned beauty of that time, was unfaithful. Which indeed she was and on many occasions too but whether that was written into Mahler’s music is anyone’s guess.

Thanks for reading.

Pat, yes finding a good line, I wish it always came that easy but sadly it’s a flash which comes and goes. Glad you liked this little piece.

Cari.
