  Ordinary day
Pidgeons landing on statues
  Rice bowls in the sink.

   Nothing was unusual
Except buildings falling down.

Nature, as beautiful as it can be, can also be very, very cruel. There's a lesson in that somewhere.

This is so true Ice, I have also commented on the same theme i.e. we watch but don’t see; a few minutes then life goes on as normal.
I thought the horrible massacre of little children of Sandy Hook would maybe, just maybe, be a watershed on the question of gun control in the States, even the NRA were silent for a day or two. Then a grey haired old man appeared on our TV screens with the message that the answer was that schoolteachers’ should be armed and the arms manufactures had a boost in sales while we in Europe shook our heads in disbelief.

The nature of environment is to perform her balancing act in spite of the viciousness of human nature.

I think I'll move to England where throughout her brave and bold existence, she's never experienced bloodshed or tyranny and all the people are nice to one another.

Many observe and yet they are equally powerless to anticipate what the human heart will do next. They just sit and wait to see it in print or on the telly just the same as I do.

Who can say? Maybe we'll read about each other some day or two.

She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast".

Thank you for the compliment on our green and pleasant land but our history is very different and far more bloodily than America. Not even the most earnest English patriot could deny that and we both have the same amount of clowns and idiots as you do.
But we have long since ditched our laws that were considered relevant some 250 years ago.

Thanks for reading, and the replys.

England has stricter gun laws, but fewer hunters, if that means anything, or not?
Very few hunters die by gun violence (accidents, yes) in the U.S.

In a non hunter setting, in both countries, these are the statistics..
Firearm related deaths. (2010)
Includes Homicides, Suicides, unintentional deaths
United States 10.64 deaths per 100,000 people.
United Kingdom  0.23 deaths per 100,000 people

Thanks again for reading..

Thank you Jan
I like Tanka as well as Haiku. I believe it allows a little more light in on the subject/story line.

Your Haiku chain is a big hit here. Everyone is having fun with it.

Perhaps we can start a Renga some time?
That would be fun too....:-)

The fragility of our lives is intensely expressed in your Tanka here, dear Ford.

I have never tried this form.
