Poet's Chair ~

Upon the edge of the world,
Initials carved beneath,
Emptiness comes and goes
But the recline of thoughts
Must be scribed,
To sit a spell within a rickety heartache,
Lounge in the glory of sturdy love, or
Stand upon a soapbox
Legs kicked out from under,
Yet There, is the Poet..
Postured or slouched,
No golden throne of laurels, a
Simple wooden chair will do,
For it's all in the worn smooth patina.
The Poet can see majesties from here,
Paddle to the moon and back,
Bathe in milk and honey seas,
Visit dark caverns
By the lamp of intuition, and
Reach for the aurora lights.
Caravans and minstrels
Parade across eyelids,
Salome dances only for him, a
Gypsy lover kisses Summer upon
Her red chokeberry lips,
All the vistas show themselves in
Unexpected whim, and
Sometimes the cleavage of a poem
Can smell of lilacs,
Giddy is the Poet in a
Flea market chair
Upon the edge of the world.

Omg, this is absolutely exquisite.
One of the best poems I've ever read.
As I was reading my mind wandered to
places in my dreams.

Excellent poetry!!!  *applause*

Ahhh--yes, the best seat in the world...
Ms. J...you got it right...the flea market chair turns into a throne, when the right person sits on it...

You should know, you sat on it when you wrote this poem.:-)

I see this poem as a treatise on observation, my favourites poets are all strong observers, even the mundane. A very minor picky, I would like the piece to be separated into stanzas as it helps with the progression of the storyline.

Happy New Year.

Fantastic read, Jan! Though the picture gives me vertigo ... your words are the fruit of a great inspiration, no doubt!

The chair is indeed a necessity when we write, but while we are in communication with the Muse we usually keep our feet in the air.

Brava!

"Sometimes the cleavage of a poem can smell of lilacs..."

Yes, and if one ever did, it would be this one of yours.

Here's to you and here's to me and should we ever disagree, here's to me!

To say I love the poem is an understatement. Wish I could say I wrote it...it would be my personal best. The pic you picked is perfection as well. On top of everything else it is such wonderful things to say about poets! Really fantastic poem!!! ~L

Know what you mean M (vertigo)..I don't care
for heights either, but my imagination is fine
with it.   'in communication with the Muse we usually keep our feet in the air'...
and our head in the clouds lol.
Thank you M. for your endearing comments.

My first response was that of BlueSerenade's.  I loved all of it and enjoyed the ending especially. M

Came upon your masterpiece here while diving a little and enjoyed reading it again.

Deserves another round!
