The Ability to Love and Trust

Have you ever loved someone,
I mean truly loved them
and then lost them
when they rejected you
for reasons you couldn't
fully understand;
because you took special care
of them hoping they wouldn't
slip from your hands?
There are things that
are hard to accept,
some things you accept
because you must,
and as you experience
the pain of rejection
you must not lose your
ability to love and trust.

Thats true James and you better know it!

It was just a thought which made them run. It was just an act that killed them.

Seems to me you have a handle on the situation, James.

Love as we show it comes in all shapes sizes and colors. One size does not fit all. Some people need a lot of attention that would smother others. The trick is loving the other person the way they need to be loved more than loving them the way we think we need to love them. ~L

The next time you meet a lady whom you aspire to attract, learn first who her father was, and is. Most women idolize their Dads. And are attracted to the type. Just my thought.JO

Rejection is a tough nut to crack, James.
Hard to get over sometime, but time heals..

I can tell this poem was from your heart.

At this point in my life James, many more than two ships passed in many more storied nights.

well said !!

I've actually lost count how many times what you
have expressed here has happened to me ...

I find the very saddest thing (and greatest
mystery of human nature & behavior) is how
even closest loved ones can suddenly, and so
easily, become 'strangers' ...

My mother’s advice.
‘Never place the whole weight of your happiness on another’s shoulders, the burden is too heavy for them to carry’.

Quote: Because you took special care of them hoping they wouldn't slip from your hands?
The answer is simple, whatever you do, you can’t make someone love you, i.e. it’s a hopeless cause, move on.
Romance is made for two
For only one to love
Is one too few

Thank you, dear James, for this sensitive offering. Your advice is wise.

It is not easy to cope with a rejection, because the pain can't be avoided. It takes time to heal, but the best reaction is indeed to wish those people who hurt us well and let them go. Much depends on how one is rejected. Loving kindness is needed in such situations, but ever so often there is blind fury and offense.

Love and peace.

Thank you Days of View, JerryPat2, Lori, latearrival, ice,  Ticklefingers, secondhanddreampoet, Charisma, cari, and Margherita for the nice response.  I suppose I've done more foolish things in my life than fall in love, when you find someone special, its hard to resist falling in love, yet you have to respect their feelings or suffer the consequences...james
