I'm getting old
wrinkled and crazy
can't do anything
about the getting old and wrinkled
but I'm trying
very, very hard to stay sane
'course some of my closest friends
are crazy
maybe it isn't so bad after all
still, old age is a minefield
of things you want to do
but can't
your physical body has left you
replaced by one
you'd rather not look at or deal with
but you have no choice
can't do much about that problem
but you can ward off
mental ineptitude
that's my thing
keeping the mind busy
is a must
absofrickinlutely
I will stave off
that nameless dark trying to enshroud me
fight the dying brain cells
never hold up the white flag
never give up
and just sit by the window and stare out
and lose myself
to the futility of it all
I've life left to live
and I'll live it until I cannot
comme ci, comme ça

Ahhh . . . Lori, you made my day . . . Oh! Did you realize I stole "absofrickinlutely" from you? Yep, I still have a smidgen of that badass attitude left, my dear friend.

If you don't immediately 'cease and desist' writing poetry about me, I'll take you to responsibility!

Furthermore Mr. JerryPat, your usage of "absofrickinlutely" was nothing short of encroachment! I was 'locked & loaded' (maybe more loaded than locked, though I have been locked after being loaded ) to switch my username to that and now to learn that you've been conspiring with Miss Lori all along is just about more abuse than a man should stand for!

Okay, I said it and I feel better.

So, other than that diatribe, how ya doin' friend?

This was a great introspective JerryPat. When I checked this out:
quote:
"still, old age is a minefield
of things you want to do
but can't"
...I thought it ironic that the very thing exists when young, at a part of your youth anyway. The 'middle-ground' was kind of busy for me with bringing up children and all that goes with it, but through it all, you've called every shot without a single 'Maggies Drawers''!

Great insights and great poetry!

Everything is kinda in standstill for me, gray days, rainy, day in and day out. Thank you for sure. Oh! I haven't been been conspiring with Miss Lori. I just ripped her word off . . .

Well there is an alternative but it’s not a palatable one is it?

From time to time you get a guy from the media asking a 106 yr old man
“And how’s life for you in your old age sir”?

“Mustn’t grumble, after I get my nappy changed at night, Nurse Jenkins reads me a fairy story before the knock me out”

Live only has any value when you have enough facilities to get some enjoyment from it, after that it’s a millstone.

Keep in there slugging friend.

Yep, the alternative doesn't set well with me, Cari, although I have to admit that it serves its purpose. I never want to be that 106-year-old man being interviewed, unless the interviewer is a busty blond, (don't care if they're store bought) and won't get all huffy when I accidentally brush against them.

JP, Oh..yes..those dreaded wrinkles,
but I will Never do plastic surgery,
just have to accept them as they come.
I especially liked these lines..
'I will stave off
that nameless dark trying to enshroud me
fight the dying brain cells
never hold up the white flag
never give up'
you give me hope to fight the good fight.

Plastic surgery, phooey! Go out the way you came in . . . Naturally. Thank you, rainy, I'm so happy to hear that I said words that gave you a reason "to fight the good fight." That's all we can do, really!

Some of my closest friends are crazy too Jerrypat2. I think everyone has crazy friends! Don't feel bad about wrinkles though unless you have one that can hide a lunchbox!

It was just a thought which made them run. It was just an act that killed them.

I feel the same about a lot of things you said, Jerry..

I think of "Truckin'" sometimes, and the line
"Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been."

I'm just an old Dead Head, I guess.

enjoyed the poem.

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."

Hah! And in a way, Jimmy, I am really relishing this, the last stages of my life. I can still do certain things I never thought possible for a soon-to-be seventy-seven old man. You betcha I'm loving it. Thank you for dropping by . . .
