When silver gray winter skies exhale
you inhale icy purity into your lungs
and your brain is on diamond alert
filtering even the tiniest dust particles
that might occlude your channels
of crystal clear tune perception.

Snow is in the air, its whispers grow.
Blades of grass vibrate in expectation.
Branches of naked trees test their muscles
while a thousand eyes in the bushes
get ready to witness the white magic
promising sparkling transformation.

Snowflakes perform their graceful dance
as if every single one was an étoile
dressed in a glistening lace tutu.
The skies upload their precious cover
in the most enchanting tune of silence.
Wrapped in unequalled beauty you sigh.

You hear the chimes of heavenly realms
which aim at the center of your breast
the hushed sound expands in your heart.
In synchronization with this wintry gift
you drift from yourself into a divine embrace.
You do not dream, you are the dream!

Snow sounds still fill your whole being
when you awake to a new radiant day
of awe inspiring quiet beauty
pulsing peacefully in your chest
reverberating in your shining eyes
and glowing deep within your soul.

Now THAT is tellin' it like it it, Margherita. Back in Arkansas where I grew up we had snow a lot. There is just something about looking out the window and watching as it first begins to fall down from the sky. You can actually see the flakes become bigger and bigger, and the accumulation on the ground grows. And yes, there is a whispering sound to it. You captured all that in your poem!

Thank you, dear Jerry, for your loving comment. I actually have a deep yearning for snow, as I experienced it back home in Switzerland. I have not forgotten my feelings though, I can vividly remember how happy I was when it snowed. I even went on very solitary wood walks and it was just heaven! Even as it was tiring, in certain points the snow was knee high!

When it snows in Rome I fear for the trees ...

I am happy that you too have your snow memories!

Such a profound thought Miss Margherita! Your lovely and artfully picturesque poetry is worthy of many more reads. Fresh and crisp as Switzerland air!

My recollections of snow are still quite clear, in spite of the warm Louisiana weather my wife and I are now enjoying. I grew up in Chicago where the 'lake effect' (Lake Michigan) could dump a lot of heavy snow in a matter of hours. Not exactly a pleasurable walk through the woods, but as carefree kids on the block, we loved it!

Add some 88's for the coming new year!

She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast".

Thank you, Danny, for your loving comment. Thinking of Lake Michigan brought also memories of my own Lake of Zurich, when it was frozen and became an immense amusement park! What fun that was! The thickness of the ice was always checked by the authorities, so we knew how far we could go and just enjoyed the fantastic freedom of skating (or even walking) in an ambiance of fairyland.

Glad you too remember the fascination of snow. Sometimes the snow ball battles were quite rough, especially with the boys!! But it was fun.

Thank you again.
