rain coming down hard in the midnight hour
The Hovel is bleak among its solitude
thinking of death as a fix-all cure
walked outside a while ago
allowing the rain to cleanse my body
and mind
seemed to me I was born into solitude
thinking of the ones who have gone on before me
solitude . . . a condition of being
which gives into thinking much too much
of the past
what was done to me
what I have done to others
as I listen to the rain pounding down
helpless to stop it
we are such weak human beings
build monstrous towers
i.e., the tower of Babel
thinking about Genesis of the Good Book
wonder why
went back outside fully clothed
a little while ago
powerless among those alive
those dead
felt like I was crushed
like willowy reeds among the bayou
of my mind
feel so all alone
don’t understand why
on the cold dark thunderous night
for I do have love . . . and
love is complete and perfect
and even if it isn't
it is all I want and need
I came back inside The Hovel
shucked off my wet clothes
dried myself off
realizing the tempest within my heart
put me in a funk
so I sat down and wrote this dark poem
dark yes
but after finishing it
a smile took complete possession of my face

Maybe we've all felt this way at one time or another JerryPat, which is to say that it comes and goes. But when it doesn't go away on its own, that's when its time to punt it out the door ourselves.

From your mild and warmer conclusion friend, I'd say you kicked it straight between the uprights!

Ticklefingers, the greatest sages of all time could not have given me better advice than did you. Thanks.

There are multitudes of people feeling like you described here so powerfully, dear Jerry, but only a few have the will, strength and the skills to come to terms with it, acknowledging it and writing about it.

All those who will relate, and I bet there are many of them, will identify and be reminded of the way to change the mood.

Very well done!

Could almost feel the chill of the rain,
& the warmth of the smile at the close.

Many, many thanks, Charisma. That last line, to me, is my life up until now. I have lived in the dark for so long (two lost decades), but these days I have banished the darkness within me and am very happy as I sit and write this response to your comment.

As I once said tears and laughter come and go from time to time and we never really know what brings them forth. Glad you found your smile, Jo

Jerry
Dug deep and flushed it all out with a smile at the end.

Enjoyed the read very much.

Its great to know you have a BIG smile to offer yourself and us after all you have done and went through! Here's a happy one back for you!

Jo, your response grounded me as I thought back to yesterday morning. I had such intense emotions flooding through me that I sat here and cried over music I was playing. WoW!

This brought me in for the ride. Your style is subtle and the simplicity masks a somber intelligence.

rain cleanses, not only physical sense, but good for the soul and mind - glad you're taking it in this context. And I used to love rains, how cozy it can be sharing one umbrella with someone you like -(I grew up in a country where great rains bring on great floods, but this doesn't faze me)

Ah, jjote, and speaking of rain, it's been raining like the devil most of the day down here in the swamp. Thank you for your very kind words, and so do I love the rain.
