Kept secrets, shame-denial;
Though recent her dis-ease
Is pictured obvious;
Friends with feelings of concern
State-ask:" "You're not obese,
Nor nearly overweight.."
"So why the purge
Of little that you eat?"

Anorexic-bulimic:
Fingers recent
Down the throat
Made her toss
The lemon water
Wheat-thin meal
Turned vomit-
Dripping
On her shoes and feet,
Below a face
Turned sky up-
Begging
Heavens promise
Of relief.

The worlds advertisements-
Printed on her retina,
Have absorbed the rays of hope,
Distorted by addiction.

No need for tubing,
Or tied balloon
Vein-elevators;
She doesn't eat,
And so gets high
By needles filled
With culture lies,
That tell her
that she's not yet "in"

Although
Her body is
Madison-
Avenue
Runway
Possessed-

Excellent! You have nailed it with this one.
It is really a tragic epidemic. Kudos ~L

Its a truth everyone knows to be sure. When it comes up in conversation, no one seems surprised to hear of it. Some parents feel their young ones will simply grow out of it as though it were akin to just another teenage 'phase'. However, many others of various ages are afflicted as well.

Its deadly behavior that needs attention and parents, friends or anyone needs to do what they can as soon as 'symptoms' are recognized.

Ideally, from infancy on up, self worth and respect for one self needs to be reinforced. That also requires strong marriages that are dedicated to the family.

In my mind, that's where it begins and ends.

The message is well disclosed in your poetry.

Thank you, Lori, and Tickle.

This is from a poetry contest. You had to write what the picture inspired in you.

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."
