Fair to middlin' of nowhere

If we take away their war
What do they have
If all they have ever known
is having nothing and violence
and we take that violence away…
They have nothing
No model for peace
No model for security
No model for success without killing
If not given a different path to follow…
A new ideology
A new technology
A new methodology
If all one knows is war and violence
they will continue to make more of the same
We can change the legacy of war
by changing what we choose to leave behind
It is not enough to bring peace to the soil…
It must have seeds and fertilizer and tools
For planting
And harvest
And market
There must be a new legacy of war…
Reconstruction
Education
Unification
Only then will peace have a chance…
To take hold
To grow
To become world-wide

Sigh . . . Japan and Germany are wonderful examples of your synopsis, for they came away from war they had lost and excelled because they turned their back on war. Of course when you are fighting religious-based turmoil things will be more difficult.

Having participated in war has not provided me with any unique insights. Greed, power, and possession are prime motivators anyone can see and experience.

War begins inside me, infecting my family which infects my community which infects you, and on we go exponentially until our noses fall from our faces.

We find myriad reasons to divide ourselves. Governments divided by political parties. Republicans and Democrats, and the many others that are ever sprouting, and as JerryPat pointed out, religion.

If a man and wife are so divided, well then there's a 'war' for you! Criticize Bush or Obama and watch the feathers fly. People voting by yanking the 'R' or 'D' levers regardless of the veracity of the candidates.

Is it really any wonder.

That is, in my opinion the Nature of Man. Until our inherent nature is changed, we will take war to its limits. What Man has started, he alone is incapable of finishing.

Jeremiah 10:23(KJV) puts it this way:
quote:
"O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps".
Whether one believes the book this came from or not, its message rings true.

I have a hard time governing a bowl of goldfish.

Wanna make 'sumpin outta it?

Guess I was thinking along the lines of filling that void and teaching a man to fish.
I do not disagree with your scriptural take on things.
Our world is shrinking and change is happening at the speed of light and new technology is bringing light and heat to the third world. It is transforming lives
I'm just saying we need to get involved in some way to make a positive change for the future other than letting chips fall where they may. ~L

Jerry,
for what ever reason, you are right, they must turn away from war. Too bad things aren't as simple as they were back then. ~L

"They", believe they are right, that the rest of the world is wrong, things will not change until that belief changes. There is strength in numbers but also inertia so it might take a long time. Thought provoking read.
Thanks
Pete
