Cradles and colic, they all start the same,
Move towards infinity- life in between.
Slack triggers impede the pendent of progress;
Until fairytales sung of gods and war,
Tighten the grip, by false advertisement.

Salesmen believe they are same as the saints,
That profits hold power of reason.
But ideals were placed in their heads by deceit;
Adhesed by the lies of their fathers.

The son of the son believes in the things
That granddad only imagined.
Joystick in hand, he guides the death planes,
Though no blood leaks from the monitor.

So with this illusion,  they enter the scene
But no joystick is held in their fingers.
Reality screams from a noise that abates,

And their life fluids stream,
To the real of the ground

Drying to shades
Of dark-copper, and umber.

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."
Carl Sandburg

I find this such an interesting write, ice. Yes, absolutely, the modern day video games gives the illusion of people dying without the truthiness of real death and the blood they shed. Scary scenario all the way around.

Scary? Yes, for their generation. My own generation had its perks too. Climbing water towers, walking on bridge rails, skitching rides on car bumpers on snow covered streets, and what about those high performance engagements at the local tail-light park? Climbing the fence at Canada Dry for some pop stashin', or distracting the cashier at the corner store so your pal can pop the top in the slider cooler and sip out the soda with a straw.

And then there was those encounters with the boys from Cozy Corner. They just don't rumble like that anymore.

So what's all this nonsense about video games? They may have made a nice guy outta the likes of me.

Here's to you and here's to me and should we ever disagree, here's to me!

Thought provoking read, I agree video games could give a false impression. But between "illusion" and "entering the scene" there is training, desensitisation against that shock. What most countries seem really bad at is caring for the aftermath, the coming to terms with what's been seen and done, the re-integration. Most worrying is that technology may divorce us more and more from both responsibility and the actuality.

My Grands last post yesterday: Just dropped off over 100 DONATED turkeys at the sub base, at their clubhouse for all current and retired Navy. They asked if I could wait to unload them as the New London Day was coming by to do a story. During my wait, I got to talk to some old timers, one of which said he was on the USS Houston, the same ship my grandfather was on when it was attacked in battle. Totally cool and emotional chat with that man.::: Had to share this as His grandfather was my husband the man told him that he did not know the name of the  young sailor in the gunners seat,but he did a "badass "job of sitting there shooting while the ship was being towed t for repairs.This was to keep the enemy  thinking the ship  was still viable. Bud was seventeen during that fight he turned 18 the next month did his three years as an enlisted sailor and I met him when he came home at age 19.And NO computer made war games are nothing like the real thing. And to think I'd get yelled at for pitching pennies out on the corner or playing Canasta with the little gal a few doors down.

Maybe the latter was because of what I had in my hand...?

Inspiring post with much truth. It seems to be a subject that gets talked about a lot, but with all the money being made, no one wants to turn back.
