A repeat

Just Thoughts 2012

I don’t feel that seeing the simple things in life is a particular blessing of one of a certain age. I have been blessed with that insight all of my life. Even as a child. I remember so many beautiful moments that easily block out the many hard deals handed out by just living.

I easily become gleeful over the showing of a scene of nature.A violet standing proud and tall among the weediest looking blades of grass on an unkempt lawn, Peeking out as if to show all is not as it seems. A spider’s web on a clear morning glistening within the morning’s dew; A small Sunflower bravely heaving itself up between the curb and the gutter on a dirty neglected street. These small gifts are cherished and held in my memory even to this day. An unfamiliar dog following me on a morning’s walk and so friendly that I spoke inviting words and almost heard an answer.

These gifts and~~ many more

Some years ago while walking in the woods I came upon a bright sunny space with an old time stonewall built many years ago. I sat and looked around pondering about who might have built that wall; I sat until the tears flowed at the lost memories held within that area. I left and never returned; enough to carry the memories of a pleasant day and leave my thoughts and tears to blend in with the thoughts of whomever lived and built the wall.

The day I wandered down to the waterside and watched a young boy having a wonderful afternoon looking for crabs.  To listen to an eight or nine year old boy explain how to know if the crab was too young to keep or if it was a female carrying young ones and watch him throw it back into the water, as  “it was the law” he said. To be taught by a youngster any thing like that is always a joy.

To see again within my mind’s eye our young son come back from the small mountain in our area tenderly holding a frog with a smile on his face as he held it out and shared his afternoon hunt with me.

I can go on~~ A walk, a quiet place, the woods, the water’s edge, the camping trips we took, so many bring precious memories that I recall so easily. As life goes on I still rejoice at an unexpected flower blooming in the yard the occasional surprise visits from an Indigo Bunting or the painted butterfly, that only grace our yard once in a while.

It is the simple things that truly make a life. If we can forget the hurts, the neglect once felt and lived through and remember the slices of life that really mattered we can still smile.

Lovely slices of life are the best memories to keep. This is such a very poetic piece of prose. Thanks for sharing

Dear Martyjo, I much enjoyed your precious poetic memory sharing and I totally agree with your philosophy that brings the apparently small things into major focus. They really are the sparks that enlighten even the darkest days and, if stored, they never dim in time and can bring joy forevermore.

Beautiful!

Love and hugs,
Margherita

I lost so much because of my errant lifestyle in my younger days, never slowing down. Still, I am grateful that in my old age I have finally slowed down enough to see, observe and appreciate the many miracles which surround, number one miracle is my faithful companion, Zoe!

fine 'slice of life' through time write!

In my beloved Scotland, there are ancient stone walls virtually everywhere ...
some dating back to at least Roman times or beyond ... and many of the
towns and their stone buildings seem to rise right out of the bedrock. One
thinks of all the folks like us who walked those ways before ... what were
their lives like ... their hopes, dreams, and loves, etc.!

Thank you Rainy Day. I appreciate your visit to my post. I often just write down thoughts and memories as I do not call myself a poet.  Jo
