No one listens, do they? Trying to make yourself heard is like crying in a hurricane. Trying to communicate is like playing charades in handcuffs. They won't get it. Expressing to others how you truly feel is like walking backwards, blindfold, through a spiral maze. Count the rings on tomorrow's table; we're alone, and we know it. Why do children invent imaginary friends? Why do adults invent gods? I'll tell you why: we don't like to be alone. But the nature of our psyche is such that we are isolated and marooned among throngs of insulated clones. How often does someone say to you: what are you thinking? How often do you think: I'd tell you, but it's pointless? Do you see? We seek to share minds, but it's somewhere we cannot go. It's simply that which we most desire to end our inexorable loneliness. Consider life as an impenetrable bubble, blown to the winds of chance and change. Yes, we can amalgamate, but never integrate, as we float on the thermals of life until circumstance or time demand that we are popped. |

You have a few very good points, and you are absolutely correct, everyone is in their own little bubble. I blame it on the Internet age, and although we can communicate here in these kinds of forums, if we lived side by side it is doubtful we would say "Good Morning," if even that to our neighbors. I speak to people that I meet on the sidewalk, and you would be amazed at those who do not respond. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

So true, Jerry. Gone is the wonder of a whitethroat's nest. Gone the ability to communicate. Fancy a beer and a chat, buddy? |

You do indeed identify the discontinuity in much of today's world. Cell phones and various 'pads' must have a built-in radar system to prevent people from bumping into themselves. The problems are known, the solutions are not. JerryPat tries to communicate with those in his 'sphere' and so do I. ...But just watch and see what happens when the proverbial elevator sticks between floors. You know, I think I'll have fun with it and not say a word. Good post Red. 88's friend She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

Hmm, I talk to myself often, where could I find a better listener? I also shout at some people on the television set. No worry about a rebuttal there. I am at the sweet old lady stage. Not many have patience for that.I must admit I had a wonderful woman move in to the house on my left. She is a credited author. And I had the privilege of reading her last book on my computer before she sent it to her editor. To my right a very nice couple in their sixties. To them I am the token sweet old lady next door. It is a comfort to have them there. Jo |

Good points well made! As for myself, poetry helps to fill the gap. It is a specialized language I'll grant you, but it is, for me, the deepest form of communication. I literally thank God I have my friends here to communicate with. Wouldn't it be heaven to gather us together to talk sometime? I think we would be fearless in plumbing the depths, so to speak, at least I would be. You got my wheels turning with this one!~L |

Your point of view is very well articulated here, dear Redstart. Yes, I too can relate to this situation and I deplore it when I realize that I am often the one who says "hello or good morning", while others wouldn't bother ... Yet, I don't feel alone, as I believe we are all ONE, even if so many are not aware of this truth. Modern tools of communication are no doubt responsible for the lack of eye-to-eye contact and conversation. Hopefully we realize the risks and create more opportunities again to talk. Well done! I had to look up amalgamate ( I must admit). Confronting point of view you have. Will we never be able to truly understand each other, because we don't have the right tools to communicate/interact with each other? I would like to know if you think that it is still worth trying. I hope you say yes. |
