Closing the book

Once a writer
made up a source
a book of counted sorrows
in retrospect I did the same
of a life that was not ours

Reading back
the plot was weak
although a lot at stake
endless repeats of same old same old
a flop was in the make

It was my book of make believe
of things not meant to be
of dreams of hopes
of wishing on
but no quotes of reality

If I someday
get a chance to write
of happiness hope and love
my characters will be real and strong
fearless of  love and fight

My book of counted sorrows has closed
I bid you farewell my friend
here’s  to you
don’t ever forget
my love will never end

Such a story.

Sad in its reflections with a hint of joy in what once was. Keeping the 'book' rather than discarding it speaks of sorrows born of love.

Wonderful title, beautifully crafted poetry.

I remember that book of counted sorrows. Life gets in the way of life sometimes. Godspeed.

Amen to that!  I think we all have a few chapters at least that we would love the chance to rewrite... but longing for that rewrite is another sorrow in itself.  You have it write in looking to just write fresh.

Loved this piece.  Could feel every trace of emotion behind it.
