   The Twilight Mist

clouds and mountains
mingle and merge
in the deep-October sky
until all is painted in a
   quicksilver wash
of heavy moonlit silence.
I am determined to learn
from this empty Autumn
   forest
whether this life is more
than the twilight mist.
