Feelin' Japanese

What do newly transported young boys do,
me and my brothers Terry and John, when
they find themselves as Air Force dependents
in Japan; We first lived in a small town
called Shirakebar, I think it was named that
because there were lots of bars for the Airmen
from the nearby Air Force Base, lucky for us
the train stop was closeby and when we were
super bored me and my brothers could take a
train to a town called Fukuoka, a larger town
North of our stop which possessed among other
attractions a large mall they called the Ginza,
where you could spend hours browsing, people
watching, interacting with friendly Japanese,
and most importantly partaking of the food;
the food was worth the ride; fish and rice,
chicken and rice, steamed rice, fried rice,
anything with rice was always nice to fill a
hungry belly.  All this before you got to
the Ginza; while you're talking the walk from
the train stop to the Ginza; I can still play
the sights of the town, the sounds of the people
this was Japan in motion; families moving through
the city going to there favorite restaurant,
people partaking of the small shops, stopping
at the fish markets, which definitely smelled
like fish; what is that just ahead that is so
noisy?  It is a popular Pachinko Machine shop,
little steel balls flying briskly through the
machines, with all the noise, the bells and
lights and alarms when they win a prize,
and the songs and the music, look there goes
a man walking by wearing his Sumo outfit,
which looks like a baggy jock strap,
well the women seem impressed anyway, young
school girls and boys walk by in their school
uniforms, the boys laughing and teasing the
girls and the girls giggling and having fun,
older men (Papasans) and older women (Mamasans)
moving about like they want to live forever,
beautiful women in colorful kimona's so richly
colorful and elegant, many clipclops and zori's
on feet everywhere, and finally more of the same
as we finally enter the vibrant Ginza.  All
around us people playing there part in the Ginza,
finally now a kindly woman in a world of pots
and ovens, smells and steam, she cooks us
a delicious meal of chicken and rice and as we
eat the whole world seems happy and nice, at the
Ginza.

Feels good to remember fond memories from childhood and I see that you have kept yours intact and still unblemished.

Thank you jjote for the kind remarks...I think I have to give credit to the Holy Spirit that brings all things to our remembrance...james
