Dictated to Lori . . . Not your kind of driftwood, still . . .

alone looking for driftwood
along the bayou
the bayou is deep
the bayou is mighty
currents strong and deadly
only fools dare swim in the bayou
as I search for
the driftwood which will
take my fancy
I remember others who
search like me
whether they search
along a bayou or a lake
wherever the driftwood search
will take them
we search for driftwood
which will capture our hearts
making us feel special
very special indeed

Thanks for the clarity, Jerry; I didn't know a bayou was deep. I always thought they were at the most chest high to an adult male and dangerous, yes, for crocs, moccasins, etc. Enjoyed this.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Bayou Lafourche, which is within walking distance from where I sit is deep. How deep I have no idea, there may be a marker for how deep it is, but don't remember seeing one. And yes, varmints of all sizes call the bayou their home. Thanks for the read and the comments.

no bayous around our area..just lakes and the sea(when I get back to my childhood home- which i will be this weekend for 2 months!)...but it looks like a good place to ruminate...Lacking that, ever watch the ocean roarrrr? or the waves lapping the shore...these memories do linger on, and my mind sometimes takes me there in my lonely moments...And driftwood may be likened to floating seaweeds, jellyfish...

Yep, it's whatever turns you on, jjote. Yes, I have watched the waves lapping the shore. I have lived in Long Island, NY, and spent many a day in the sun at Jones Beach. Plus I now live within an hour of the Gulf of Mexico, and while it can't compare with the Pacific, or Atlantic Oceans, it has its moments. Thank you for commenting.

Jerry

I enjoyed the way you conveyed your story and the focus of driftwood really stuck with me.  Take care.
