Turing eighteen
doesn’t suddenly mean
you’re all grown up
with nothing left to learn.
Turning eighteen
It doesn’t mean you can
do anything you want-
no age allows you that.
It doesn’t suddenly mean
every big decision
you have to make
you have to make
alone.
It doesn’t suddenly mean
you have to move out
on your own
right away.
Turning eighteen simply means
the Government says hey
taxes you pay!

August 4th my "baby" turns 18! And she is ready to leave the nest! We told her don't be too proud to come back if it doesn't work out the way you think it will. And come back alone! Don't come dragging a boyfriend with you! Can't say I blame her for wanting to leave here-Niles is not a social Mecca! She doesn't want to live and work and go to school in the town where she went to high school and I don't blame her for that either.

My youngest son will be 35 this month. And I'm really feeling the years...

She will have to find out what life is all about. She will make mistakes. We all have made mistakes, don't you know? I wish her luck and happiness!

She is a smart cookie! If she walks her talk she will be in good shape. I miss her already... and then she comes home! LOL!

I know her leaving will be difficult . . . But hey! . . . It frees you up also . . . Just think what you can do on the dining room table if you're a mind to. Heh.Heh

Yeah, set two plates instead of three (dining room table)!! Less food, less cleanup.

I left when I was 17 - best thing I ever did.

A lot easier back then though - living on your own is a lot tougher these days.  And I agree,if come back - better be married to him you bring with you other wise he lives "elsewhere".

My two are both in their 30's and didn't have them until I was 37 or so....

Don't envy you go through this - couldn't imagine having and 18 year old ----

Ouch!

Tell me about it Jimmy, My oldest will turn forty 2 months after I turn 60.

Talk about ouch! These new commercials with the "older" women with a body I haven't had since I was 20! At least the diabetes commercials are realistic.

James,
if she had been a guy, I'd have mentioned civil service instead.

Oh but ambition burns so brightly in some that they will not be held back in their efforts to stand on their own and be their own persons.  I would venture to say that the majority come to your perspective eventually, and their love and appreciation for those they were trying so hard to free themselves of magnifies immensely.

My parents became geniuses when I turned 30. I hope it won't take that long for my daughter. ~L
