it took someone
to flat out state something
to me
which, in turn, caused
me to unearth something vile
I’d kept hidden for many years
what she said made me
shine some light on
the darkness within my soul
even at this late date
in time maybe . . .
just maybe
I can finally be a whole person
I knew where to look
to find this piece of me
it’d been lodged within
my darkness for many, many years
waiting for me to set it free
for me to be free
but it took a direct, somewhat
crude statement
for me to actually admit
to this part of me
that I had hidden all my life
except that one time
in my memoir
I actually brought the subject up
never again
ahhh . . .
but it was still there
this part of my absolute identity
so I raise a glass to the one
who so honestly
put me on a search of
my inner self
after some internal self-conversation
I made myself proud
after a fitful night’s sleep
I woke up feeling good about myself
the mirror shows
what has happened to me
my frown is gone
she made that happen
by just being honest
very, very honest with me
I owe her . . . big time

Glad that frown is gone, Jer.  For some people that never comes, and the subconscious elbows they throw their whole life leaves nothing but a chorus of frowns behind them.  Maybe yours can end differently.

"..after a fitful night’s sleep
I woke up feeling good about myself.."
This? Is *important!

Soo happy for you, Jerry!
(for this and for your good company )

My friend, I couldn't be happier for you! It is wonderful to know you are still growing and learning and living life well. How great to find unexpected peace in your heart now.
Hugs! ~L

Lori, you just cannot believe. I have two women who have helped guide me to a better understand of my inner self. Jane is one and I have a feeling you know who the other one is. Thank you for always being here.

it 's good to have someone recover a hidden good part of you, brings it out into the open once more..makes life worthwhile to live again. So behave now Jerry..*smile*

You are so right about finding "a hidden good part of you," jjote, and I'll do what I can about behaving . . .

An unveiling of your journey through "recovery." Well done; no need to unveil the piece of you, just the celebration!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

somebody being honest usually ricochets off and may cause collateral damage. here your poetry just made you bounce and catch her. good day to you...

Yeah you're right, srizah, many times being told something honestly can cause friction . . . But not this time . . . Thank you for the time spent reading and commenting on my poem.
