(still trying to draw inspiration for poems on ordinary things)

My master and mistress now sit on benches
as they age with the sun in the park
As for me, I lean crookedly at the far end of a closet
not really lonely, but still reminiscing

I remember them in their youth
walking and laughing under the rain
how cozy and intimate they were
as I sheltered them from getting wet.

With their arms around each other
and the rain falling in steady patter
only the whooshing sound of their shoes
and soft conversations breaking the silence.

Now I feel like a fountain on its last dying spurt
watching and waiting for the sun to fade
as I lie in my own spectral darkness
implacable  to humans scurrying outside

Soon my existence will meld with the motes of dust
another useless clutter in the closet.
Though none will miss me - I am content
I have not strayed from my destiny's path

I have served my purpose well.

Absolutely love this - so many things I could reference . . . but then, they all meld into a very wonderful whole... and the end was awesome.

Well, this is an interesting topic for a poem, the fading away of the umbrella shunted into the back of the dark, musty closet, with only distant memories to wile away the time. I loved it!

Contentment in serving your purpose is a beautiful thing.  love the graceful acceptance of where you are, and where you are going.  We don't see that often enough these days.  Well written piece.
