seventy-six my last birthday
hah! I counted the candles
on a nonexistence cake
saw flames flaring on the horizon
in the cyberspace
of my life
watched the sun sinking into the west
if I am quick enough
maybe there is time to yearn for . . .

Aww, Jerry...hugggs just for your somber, k?

Birthdays can be a depressing bit of business indeed...forge on man, blast the counting!

and smile, just being. I'm one to talk I know, but it's worth the shot!

good mornin'/afternoon!

Oh go press the wrinkles out of your birthday suit! Have you talked to Zoe about this? She might have a difference of opinion.
Sounds like the Hovel needs a dose of fresh air and sunlight....

Naw, I'm good to go, Lori. Besides I do not have wrinkles in my birthday suit, you vixen you. Zoe is cool with my forays into the dangerous, darker places I go within my poetry. All kidding aside, I am doing very well. Pouting, you never write me poems.

By the way, by the bayou
aside the swamp
hunkered down, in the hovel
hammering away at his keyboard
whilst sipping his cheap red burgundy
is a man of many monikers.
The name by which he has often been called,
though the name has never been spoken,
is from the dearest of his affections.
And this name is no mere token
to be taken lightly or for granted.
Its a name of devoted love for a true man
that only one special lady can bestow.
And that lady is his little dog Zoe,
Her name for him is My Human.
She loves him more than he will ever know.

Glad to see Lori cheering you up there, Jer.  If it were up to me I think we all know how that would go.  I can say that my own personal birthdays have always been some of the darkest times in my life... too many negatives they remind me of I suppose.  Thank the heavens they only come once a year.  You, I know still have some smiling ahead of you though, might as well start now.

Yeah, you're right Michael, smile on . . . About the birthdays, The only two birthdays which meant much to me was when I finally stumbled into my teenage years with number thirteen. Then it was my twenty-first birthday that I was happy about. The rest? Couldn't care less about any of them until I hit seventy. SEVENTY!!! DAMN!!! I said to myself. People start dying in the seventies . . . . Here I am seventy-six and looking forward to turning eighty . . . .
