oh, he found the dark road
failing at every turn
his world took him by the hand
and wasted his flower of youth
he tasted
he drifted naked
among smoke-filled rooms
phony laughter
one night stands and warm bodies
with cold hearts
his unspoken thoughts
kept him seeking for the truth
eh . . .when truth was addressed
he ran and hid
though his road was dark and dangerous
somehow he managed to
steer the course
and now he is here
with a kaleidoscope world at his fingertips
he sheds no tears
though spears have pierced his soul
the dark road
was what made him who he is today
a man who
has found peace
and love
life does surprise us

It has also been my experience, anything dark usually produces that which makes us, US...strong, feisty, and more appreciative of what light that we might come across.

You've captured that aspect perfectly Jerry!

All those spears... we learn from them, and grow from them.  No matter what, they shape us.  Hopefully, they teach to appreciate the better aspects of life.  Because of the appreciation I have today for things I would have neglected even a decade past, I would not trade my scars for anything.  With you completely on this one, Jer.

Jerry,
It does my heart good to hear you so happy. It is awesome when we can stand atop that steaming pile of our past and know it did not defeat us. In fact we came out smelling like, er..ah..rose! I hope in these golden years you find the deepest contentment and sense of well being.~L
