A Song I Used to Sing

There was a song I used to sing,
Was called, “I can do Anything.”
A catchy tune, I must attest.
I sang it proud, thought myself blessed.

Over time, it was more a hum;
My ever after ‘never come.
But still I stood, gave life my best.
A hum to self, softly expressed.

The words now faded, setting still.
I watch life from the windowsill,
With the story those words once said,
Naught but a line ‘cross the forehead.

A new song now that silence blends,
I know too well how this one ends.
I close my eyes, and listen well.
It’s still early, but I can tell.

There was a song I used to sing,
Was called, “I can do Anything.”
A tally of forgotten word,
Reaching new heights, to die unheard.

I don't like the sound of this verse.

Nothing to worry about Jer, this is an older poem.  Devina stole my muse so I had to resort to digging for scraps.     I should have dated it.

Oh, Michael, how the hell did I know it was an old poem. At the least you could have done
would have mentioned that.

All I can say is that a song that blends silence sounds like perfection to me ...

Sing your song and listen, without anticipating your interpretation. Its message might surprise you, dear Michael.

Great write.

*...hands behind my back...
...now how in worlds do I get blamed when I jussst popped in...?

lol. so maybe I did keep your hostaged-muse for a bit, but last I saw? it was FINE...and headed north towards the mountains...Egs.

I really like the picture you build here Michael, showing just a peek of vulnerable.

Open arms can be the most fragile in the world...
