the sun is a blinding ball of light
giving Bayou Lafourche its full tilt persona
where gators scud under the house
built on stilts
while a fluttering concerto of birds
gives truth to the solemn
grave I stand, head bowed
all my sins and peccadilloes buried there
marking seventy-six
years I have trod this earth
long-legged birds stalk the water’s edge
with spear-like beaks
searching to kill a life
of some unlucky fish
so that his life can carry on
back in 2009 I came here to bury
all my misdeeds
after I’d banished their presence within me
giving me peace . . . finally
and although I had banished
my misdeeds
they still floated around in my mind
looking for an entryway
back inside
no . . .
couldn’t allow that to happen
so metaphorically I, with
with my shovel
walked the bank of Bayou Lafourche
until I found the perfect spot
where I dug the grave
and, again, metaphorically, threw my
misdeeds into that wet, dark pit
I come back and visit this place often
it has served its purpose
it has served its purpose very well

psssttt...guard the bridge too...I've heard those gators mosey in that way also?

I store a mind-stamp of my parents treading through town years ago...it seems an appropriate grounds for holding all that weight- Nice choice!

and well put down

What a wise thing to do. May your past forever RIP. Revisiting the site to reinforce that feeling every so often is a good idea. Good write. ~L

You wrote a perfect picture for me to stand there along side you. Oh. I see a small scrap of misdeed  climbing out of the debris. I kick it back under, no problems now Jerry. keep on living the good life. Jo

Ahhh . . . Many thanks, Jo, for being so watchful and sending the little misdeed back from whence it came. They are pesky little devils, thanks again.

A very interesting philosophy.  Not sure what direction I take with my misdeeds.  I think mostly I just swim with them in the murky waters of the back of my mind.  I could learn from this.
