The Mark

Dragon-bone tip and razor sharp—
Shaft polished to a shine.
Demons shudder and angels harp,
As I look to what’s mine.
The cherub down, by soft renown
Arrow falling at feet.
I’ve walked the land a man been damned
By love he’d never greet.

But, an invisible string here,
Sometimes I feel the tug.
All destiny once brought me near
Lost to a shoulder shrug.
I searched for years, I bled the tears,
Whispered names in the dark.
Woke to a sea of misery,
And still I missed the mark.

This arrow now pulling once more,
I know I have to go.
‘Wonder what change might hold in store,
If, this time, I walk slow.
A hand to hold, and not let go,
Never viewed as a prize.
But a smile to share, with soul laid bare
Before my lover’s eyes.

Oh Michael, I absolutely loved this one. You reached deep and found yourself in the halls of wonderment and best of all . . . a maybe . . . This line gave me chills . . .
quote:
Lost to a shoulder shrug.
Anyway, I found some light within the lines of this poem. Thank you.

Jer, thank you.  Your words mean much.  Been in the dark quite a while I know.  Not my typical venue so it's good to know reaching for the light is appreciated.

Tanya, the best arsenal in the world does absolutely no good if you can't can't get past the self-painted target on your own forehead.  Still, I wouldn't mind peeking to see what you're stashing under your bed.  Would leave my eyes as big as saucers I'd bet.

I love it when you play in the light Michael!
A snoodge out of your comfort zone now and again is good for you. (so they tell me) Personally I prefer my comfort zone (make it a double with a side order of comfort food) but they tell me it is unhealthy. ~L

I hear you, Lori.  Not sure it's really livin' when they take the livin' part out of it.  ((hugs)) to you.
